We're doomed...

Jeff — March 22, 2009 - 12:07pm

[righteous indignation alert]

We've been browsing the Internet this morning reading more about the financial crisis and we're friggin doomed.

The sooner everyone wakes up and realizes that it's not a Democratic or Republican problem, but rather an problem with the political system at large, the better off we'll be. Members of Congress widely get elected on the backs of greedy special interests, take your pick -- banking, health care, energy. They intentionally make legislation so complex and overwhelming that it's near impossible for finer details to be worked out and scrutinized by reasonable people. The likes of the Patriot Act, TARP, 'Stimulus' Bill, federal budget.. all unwieldy nonsensical legislation intentionally rushed through under the guise of national crisis.

And then let's not forget the all the culture warriors who then try to push their social agendas along side issues that have nothing to do with the situation at hand. Pet causes usually driven by an absolute faith in a magical boogie man or just a plain hatred of group(s) of people who have a different cultural perspective -- north vs south, east vs west, etc.

Stop the ride, I want off.

Thank-you for posting my grandfathers Obit.
He had been Ham Operator for more years than I have been alive.
From my memory, He was most proud of being part of the MARS network. My father helped him move a telex machine to the attic in their Bridgeport NY home and they laughed for years about it. It was very heavy and never left the attic. I am sure that it is still there.

Before his stroke in 2004 I never visited him and Nanny (Norma Freeman) with out a visit to the radio room or his car for the mobile unit.

I had wanted the Amateur Radio network to know of his passing but did not know how.

Thank You.

Radio and Relatives

I too remember my Grand Father and his Breaker Breaker 19 Mentality.
He had made his Radio Room in Grand Ma's Utility Room.
She Hated It, but his grand kids thought is was cool to be able to talk "skip land".

My Condolences to the Freeman Family

Anonymous — April 11, 2009 - 7:15pm

I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Freeman's passing ( and of Mrs. Freeman's recent passing also ). I knew Mr. Freeman first, in regards to church, as I visited at his home he showed me his ham radio, and let me talk on it a couple of times when I was a teenager back in 1987. It has always tweaked my interest in ham radio, although I have yet to pursue it.
I loved to hear his stories and experiences, he had many to tell, especially during WW2.
We lost touch over time, but I have always though of him & his wife with fondness.

Sorry for your loss..

Holly,

Thanks for contacting me. Your Grandfather and I knew each other quite well when I was a kid. I first met him through ham radio when I was 12 years old in 1993. We then got to know each other better through an Internet Service Provider I did technical support for. I'd come over to his house from time to time and fix his computer for him whenever he had a problem. He'd always let me play around with his radios out there in Eden Gardens. He was a very nice man and it was a real pleasure to get a chance to know him.

I'm sorry I didn't stay in contact as I got older, but I drifted away from ham radio and moved out of the area, so it was difficult to keep in touch with lots of guys like your Grandfather who really helped pass the hobby to the next generation.

My condolences to you and your family.

73 as Oran would say. :)
