Yes, the idealistic libertarian who rallied so hard for Ron Paul these last 2 years is voting for Barack Obama. I know this is contrary to everything I've preached for years now, but John McCain and Sarah Palin simply lack the integrity, temperament, and dare I say intelligence to lead this country through what we now face. If we elect John McCain and Sarah Palin to the Whitehouse, we might as well all show up at central casting for Idocracy II.
Obama gets it. Yes, his politics are liberal. His connections, campaign contributions, and past dealings are ethically suspect -- but he understands what fundamental aspects of our society are broken/harmful and he'll address them. Which is better than ignoring them or being completely oblivious to their existence. What does a man like John McCain with 11 houses know about the type of life most of us live? Very little.
Obama's upbringing was that of both poverty and privilege. He saw how hard it was for a young mother to provide for her children. His Grandmother demonstrated to him how a hard working individual can start from the bottom, work hard, and rise to the top. He understands the complexities of a diverse society and the challenges that every day Americans face. His relative youth allows him to provide a 21st century outlook, opening doors to technological innovations and solutions the likes that have never been seriously considered in Washington, DC.
We must restore the world's confidence in America, but more importantly our confidence in ourselves as a nation. People mock Obama's 'we are the ones we have been waiting for' comment, but perhaps that's not far from the truth. If we cannot save ourselves from what this country has become, who will?
Barack Obama inspires people to do more, do better. He believes our best days could still be ahead of us -- don't you want to believe that too?

Your Thoughts Today
Jeff,
Would you still vote the way you did after watching the first few weeks go by under an Obama administration?
Yeah, absolutely -- especially considering the alternative.
I find this so-called economic stimulus to be unwise and he had some rough days with a few cabinet picks, but all in all, nothing unexpected. I thought his press conference the other night was very impressive. Though it's really too early to judge, the first 100 days of most administrations are filled with turmoil, ask me after 2 years.
Thanks
Thanks for voting for Mr. Obama. This economic recovery plan is the best thing since PolPot!
Yeah...
Because using the tax payers money in an ill advised way is exactly like wiping out 25% of the Cambodian population.
Bush Redux
You voted for Bush policy redux with a slightly higher marxist leaning..
Good job. You are just as responsible as the rest of the collectivist in this country.
Obama
Doesn't it scare you to know that he is not oppossed to gay marriage and abortion? Will abortion be his answer to ending poverty? How is a man who refused to swear in on the Bible to uphold Christian values that this country was built on? He even refuses to respect the American flag when the pledge is said. I believe we are in for some sad times. I would like to see him resume for his first part time job. Oh yeah he was out of poverty by then and didn't have to work, I forgot.
to Caw28164
Get your facts straight. He never refused to be sworn in by a Bible, and the whole "heart on hand" picture was a one shot deal. There are probably hundreds of other pictures where he DOES have his hand on his heart.
I didn't vote for Obama (and I stand by that), but I'm not willing to have crap spread about someone that is completely rumor and hearsay that in the end has nothing to do with policy and law. Focus on the issues at hand.
wow
I think I just vomited a little.
Wow.
You're my cousin, and I love you, but you're so very wrong..
Abortion as a means of ending poverty? What paranoid sicko website did you get that from? Truly, of all the crazy things I've heard about Obama -- that's takes the cake.
As for gay marriage -- I'm horrified that proposition #8 passed in California. So, you're barking up the wrong tree there. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/27652443#27652443
Obama took his oath on the Bible. Do your research, not everything you hear from your church or your church friends is accurate. Repeat to yourself, facts are good; conjecture, rumor, and fear is not.
I've seen one photo with Barack Obama's back to the flag where he did not have his hand on his heart during the pledge. I've seen dozens of photos where he does have his hand over his heart... so one photo snapped at possibly the wrong time is enough for you to say "he doesn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge?"
Yeah, that Harvard Law degree -- top in his class, Harvard Law Review.. what a disgraceful lazy ass on the dole.
And to any claim Barack Obama
And to any claim Barack Obama isn't a Christian, I take him at his word that he is. And I believe it's Un-Christian to do otherwise, is it not?
And as for being founded on Christian principles, let's again take a look at the facts...
----
Treaty Of Tripoli
The Treaty of Tripoli usually refers to the first treaty concluded between the United States of America and Tripoli, otherwise known in English as the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the United States of America and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli of Barbary. The treaty was signed at Tripoli on November 4, 1796 and at Algiers (for a third-party witness) on January 3, 1797, finally receiving ratification from the U.S. Senate on June 7, 1797 and signed by President John Adams on June 10, 1797.
Article 11 reads: Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Signed by a Christian, President John Adams and ratified by the US Senate... presumably a body made up mostly of Christian men at the time.
----
So which history are you going by? The one backed up by facts, books, and newspapers from the time of our founding fathers? Or stuff people like to make up?
This country was founded on the principles of liberty and not Christianity. If Christianity had been this country's founding purpose, would those brave delegates in Philadelphia on the brink of war used terms like 'to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them'? Or would they have more likely referred specifically to a Christian god and their Lord Jesus Christ? So to that end, the notion that a test of religious faith was any factor in an election would cause the founders to spin in their graves. It's not enough that Obama tells us he's a Christian, but you need proof? In what form.. from a burning bush, perhaps?
You might want to rethink that
PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, in just Punishment of our manifold Transgressions, it hath pleased the Supreme Disposer of all Events to visit these United States with a calamitous War, through which his Divine Providence hath hitherto in a wonderful Manner conducted us, so that we might acknowledge that the Race is not to the Swift, nor the Battle to the Strong: AND WHEREAS, notwithstanding the Chastisements received and Benefits bestowed, too few have been sufficiently awakened to a Sense of their Guilt, or warmed with Gratitude, or taught to amend their Lives and turn from their Sins, that so he might turn his Wrath: AND WHEREAS, from a Consciousness of what we have merited at his Hands, and an Apprehension that the Malevolence of our disappointed Enemies, like the Incredulity of Pharaoh, may be used as the Scourge of Omnipotence to vindicate his slighted Majesty, there is Reason to fear that he may permit much of our Land to become the Prey of the Spoiler, our Borders to be ravaged, and our Habitations destroyed:
RESOLVED,
THAT it be recommended to the several States to appoint the First Thursday in May next to be a Day of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer to Almighty God, that he will be pleased to avert those impending Calamities which we have but too well deserved: That he will grant us his Grace to repent of our Sins, and amend our Lives according to his Holy Word: That he will continue that wonderful Protection which hath led us through the Paths of Danger and Distress: That he will be a Husband to the Widow, and a Father to the fatherless Children, who weep over the Barbarities of a Savage Enemy: That he will grant us Patience in Suffering, and Fortitude in Adversity: That he will inspire us with Humility, Moderation, and Gratitude in prosperous Circumstances: That he will give Wisdom to our Councils, Firmness to our Resolutions, and Victory to our Arms: That he will bless the Labours of the Husbandman, and pour forth Abundance, so that we may enjoy the Fruits of the Earth in due Season: That he will cause Union, Harmony, and mutual Confidence to prevail throughout these States: That he will bestow on our great Ally all those Blessings which may enable him to be gloriously instrumental in protecting the Rights of Mankind, and promoting the Happiness of his Subjects: That he will bountifully continue his paternal Care to the Commander in Chief, and the Officers and Soldiers of the United States: That he will grant the Blessings of Peace to all contending Nations, Freedom to those who are in Bondage, and Comfort to the Afflicted: That he will diffuse Useful Knowledge, extend the Influence of True Religion, and give us that Peace of Mind which the World cannot give: That he will be our Shield in the Day of Battle, our Comforter in the Hour of Death, and our kind Parent and merciful Judge through Time and through Eternity.
Done in CONGRESS, this Twentieth Day of March, in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-Nine, and in the Third Year of our Independence.
JOHN JAY, President.
Attest. CHARLES THOMSON, Secretary.
A Congressional Proclaimation?
They also have a proclamation declaring National Ice Cream Day..
Are you saying that carries the same weight as a treaty ratified by the US Senate, and signed by the President of the United States -- you know, binding legislation?
By the way, only cowards post anonymously.
Questioning Christian stance
I agree... as a Christian, who are we to "judge" someone else's claim of faith. That is completely against what we are taught as Christians.
Questioning his stance on freedoms and policies... that's another story.
